Welcome!

Serving the Community You Love

Bainbridge Island ferryPassionate and caring citizens are making a difference on Bainbridge Island through strategic giving, sound investment, and service. Join us in supporting the vibrant community we love!

Bainbridge Community Foundation (BCF) improves quality of life for those who live and work on Bainbridge Island by inspiring community members to engage with their community through volunteering and philanthropic support. We connect thoughtful donors and dedicated charities. We fund grants to dozens of local nonprofits each year. We continue to learn about our community and share that understanding through year-round events across the island.

When you give through BCF, you become our partner in funding vital, forward-thinking causes in our community and help to ensure a vibrant, healthy future for the people we love and the place we call home.

Bainbridge Island is a unique community that benefits from our collaborative stewardship. From the island’s natural beauty to our local children’s theater, from affordable housing to academic scholarships, we stand in solidarity and support of the individuals, groups, and organizations making a difference in our community. Our driving goal is to foster the vitality of Bainbridge Island for generations to come.

How does our community foundation work? We receive contributions from individuals, invest those gifts for long-term growth, and distribute funds back into the community. In addition, we administer Donor Advised Funds and Designated Funds as giving vehicles for individuals, families, and businesses.

We look forward to building a lasting relationship with you and working toward our shared goal of a sustainably vibrant Bainbridge Island.

What is a community foundation?

happyA community foundation is a grant-making public charity that improves quality of life within a specific area by harnessing the financial resources of individuals, families, and businesses to support effective community nonprofits.

Community foundations vary widely in assets, ranging from under $100,000 to over $1.7B. In 2011, more than 750 community foundations across the country gave $4.3B to nonprofits in arts and education, health and human services, the environment, and disaster relief.

As a community foundation, we adhere to rigorous standards. The Community Foundations National Standards Board confirms operational excellence in six key areas — mission, structure, and governance; resource development; stewardship and accountability; grant-making and community leadership; donor relations; and communications. Foundations that comply with these standards can display the official National Standards Seal. Today nearly 500 community foundations have earned the seal — one of which is BCF.
